As electric car sales grow, demand for lithium, a key component in EV batteries, has surged. China controls about 60 per cent of global lithium processing, through its vast network of refineries. As the FT’s Harry Dempsey reports, Europe and the US are both making moves to loosen China’s grip on the lithium supply chain, but it won’t be easy.
